Dr. George W. Hill Legacy Center was founded in 2021 with one central mission in mind: Offer and design programming to educate, support and empower those who utilize our services. 


We are a black-owned and operated virtual community center that services the black community through programming. Our Community Service Programs incites a zest for learning and exploration, and participants leave feeling fulfilled and inspired. Ready to take part in the action?

DR. GEORGE W. HILL

The Inspiration Behind Our Community Service Program

Dr. George W. Hill was born in New York City. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School and attend Cornell University, Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine, receiving his Medical Degree. 

He served his internship at Harlem Hospital, New York City.  He received his license as a doctor of Medicine from the State of Indiana in 1933 and from New York State in 1934.  In 1946 he took a postgraduate course in General Urology and Urological Anatomy and in 1952 one in Electrocardiography at New York University School of Medicine.

In 1934 he opened a medical office in Ossining, NY. His patients were from Peekskill, Tarrytown, White Plains and Connecticut. 

In 1938 The Ossining Negro Civic Organization was founded and Dr. Hill was a elected its first president. He continued as a devoted member throughout the life of the organization. Under his leadership the ONCO accomplished many things of value to the black community and began a program of encouragement to young people which has been continued with the establishment of the Ossining Cooperative Scholarship Fund, of which Dr. Hill has been a member since its inception. 

During World War II, Dr. Hill was a Major in the Medical Corps and a members of the Surgeon Guards. He was specially commissioned by the Surgeon General for the study of Social Diseases in the Armed Forces. 

Dr. Hill was a member of the following organizations: NAACP, County, State, and American Medical Associations, of the American Academy of General Practitioners, President and senior attending Staff of the Ossining Hospital, Attending Staff of Phelps Memorial Hospital, Westchester Heart Association, Served on the Board of Directors of the Westchester Mental Hygiene Association, Westchester War Manpower Board, Medical Board of Phelps Memorial Hospital. He was the recipient of a New York State Fellowship for the Study of Social Diseases and was Attending Physical at the Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
